On 9th May 2020, the Young Society of Construction Law (YSCL) proudly joined forces with the Bar Council Human Rights Committee to host a webinar titled “Impact of COVID-19 on Migrant Workers and Refugees”. This was the very first event in our #YSCLcares initiative which is designed to provide a platform for discussion to raise awareness on current social issues.

Our highly distinguished panel of human rights activists included Latheefa Koya, Roger Chan Weng Keng, Collin Arvind Andrew, as well as Ronan Collins in his capacity as the President of Lighthouse Club of Kuala Lumpur.

Together, the panellists shed light on how the #COVID19 pandemic has exacerbated the appalling circumstances currently being faced by the most marginalized communities in the country. The panellists also shared their recommendations on what steps the Government can take in balancing the protection of migrants and refugees, and in curbing spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

The event was moderated by our President, Abang Mohd Iwawan and committee member, Laarnia Rajandran.

We are happy to report that this webinar reached its maximum capacity of 500 registrants within less than a day of being advertised, and was very well-received by our viewers.
